Excuses, Excuses

Need to find an excuse to spend an hour or two at Big Daddy’s Tattoos while I’m in PA. Unless there’s another reccomended shop in the East Pittsburgh/Irwin/Uniontown area I need to know about.

Skully Skull Skull. I want one or both of my Skulls as souveneers of our trips north this summer. I’m thinking fo starting a skull tattoo collection, and once form MI and one from PA would be a great start…

3 weeks, I should really confirm where we’re sleeping in PA…

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

Oddly enough, I would’ve found it easier to recommend a tattoo parlor in Michigan than in Pennsylvania (although now that I think of it, you probably won’t be anywhere near Easttown/Grand Rapids). There are, supposedly, several great places in the college district, Oakland, about half an hour in from Irwin — quite a bit closer than Uniontown. I think Lefty’s is the popular choice there. Duke’s Tattoos in Irwin is apparently pretty decent, and VERY nearby. And I’ll ask Alissa where she went to get her octopus, which came out quite nicely.

Yeah, I saw Duke’s, but didn’t see a web page. I saw a one joint that I was like “NO WAY” when I looked at the gallery – the colors just didn’t look like they had been applied properly, and the linework and blackwork was pretty sloppy.

Last thing I want is some ink-age that I have to get redone when I come home, you know?

No, we won’t be anywhere near Grad Rapids, just Lansing and possibly Traverse City.

I wonder if it’s faster to cross canada to get to PA than to drive down to OH….

I think there’s a way it can be quicker to cut through Canada, but from what I hear from the Canadian crowd, it all depends on how long the line is at the border, and of course, crossing the border twice (into Canada and back into the U.S.) doubles your chances for a 2-hour line at Customs. And I should point out that after today, security may be a little tight for a while. Then again, I don’t remember exactly where Traverse City is, so it may turn out to be much more efficient to go through Canada.

I do know it’s 7-8 hours from GR to Irwin, so that would be 6-7ish hours from Lansing to Irwin. My preferred route is to take… um, let’s see if I remember the numbers… I believe it’s 96E to 22S; cut through Maumee, Ohio, to 80/90; 80/90 becomes 80; 80 becomes 76; and 76 runs all the way in to Irwin. That’s always worked very well for me (except for one time when the whole state of Ohio was under construction).

What is this about a PA trip? Why was I not informed of such a thing? Haven’t you learned that all time away from this office must be run by me first. It gives me a chance to take those same days off. :-)
