Demon Days & Mezmerize

My copy of Gorillaz “Demon Days” (the new CD) came in yesterday. After giving it a listen or two, I really have to say this doesn’t come anywhere near the debut CD. Noticably absent are Del tha Funky Homosapien and Yumi. None of the tracks are as engaging, although one or two have a good beat and a nice hook.

Dennis Hopper reading the Fire Coming out of the Monkey’s Head is kind of a waste, IMHO.

OTOH, I got in System of a Down’s Mezmerize on Saturday and it’s sweet. The usual mix of garage, rough edge production and some very slick well done tracks. Of them all, “Violent Pornography” and “Radio/Video” are my favorites, although only one of those will get radio airplay.

I think I’ll be listening to Mezmerize more than Demon Days, for sure.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.
