…got home and found R on my machine. Oh yeah, hers started acting wierd, so she was using mine. Well, as long as hers was down anyway, it was time for some surgery.

Install new mobo in case : check
Transfer other components to new case: check
Power on: Uh-oh

Here we go. Asus prints the pinouts on the mobo the opposite of the way they get hooked up. No worries, fix that, button it back up and…

Power on: check
DVD hangs at boot : dammit

It was at this point I left the case open for a while. Fixed the DVD drive (hmm, that connection ain’t quite right), and ended up swapping out her keyboard and trackball with some newer USB extras I happend to have in my stash, re-activated XP, and reversed a case fan I had installed (blow hot air out, dumbass). She’s humming away, and the system is behaving much better than before. So we’ll see.

And now that I’ve done major surgery on her machine, I now have an excuse to upgrade to a 64-bit system when the money is all right again. Maybe my christmas present to myself. Mwa-ha-ha!

Edit: Fixed my grammar a little. And spelling. *sigh*

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

She got a mobo, and a case, but hadn’t had it applied yet. The old case was too small for the new mobo, and I just now got around to making the swap.

I got a whole lotta time to figure out what I want, that’s for sure.
