Holiday Menu

As many of my long-time readers may remember, we do an annual Christmas Day dinner at our house. And every year I try to have something we’ve not done before. The prior menus include :
– roast goose,
– (my first) fried turkey, and
– roast pork loin with savory herbs.

So deciding on this year’s menu has been a bit of a challenge. Prior meals were centered around the main dish. This year I’m mixing it up a little – I found a great local wine (Duplin County Christmas Eve) and I’m building a meal around that. The menu so far includes :

– Pork Crown Roast in a red wine marinade
– Sweet Potato and Apple Stuffing
– Red-Wine Sauce

I plan on making the red wine sauce by deglazing the roasting pan with the wine.

And with all that, I’ve already started planning next year’s dinner, which will be my most challenging meal to date. The only reason I’m not doing it this year is because it takes a lot more planning….

    If you have a chance, go to the Duplin Winery. The tasting is great. All thier wines are great. My folks go every year and help crush the grapes. My favorite is the Scupernong Blush. I buy cases each time I’m in NC.

    …one fo the joys of living down here is you can get Scupernong Blush in Food Lion for cheap.

    The Christmas Eve wine is a light, fruity red. I think it’s new this year – or new to my local stores, anyway.

    Make sure you get some if you can.

    Try the Blackberry when you get the chance. It’s amazing.

    But the Scuppernong is my favorite…

    It’s been around a couple years actually. I’ve got six bottle at home I think. Who are we kiding, it’s all good. The high sugar content will give you a hell of a hangover if you over do it though.

    Your dinner sounds very yummy! We’re having ham for Christmas dinner since I can’t eat poultry anymore, though I think crown roast of pork sounds better!
