Looks like the bulk of the ice is done out here. Let’s hope the power holds through the night.

Red Hat is delayed until 10am. Figures. We’ll see how it looks out here by 9. I’ll also check the closings again in the morning, but IO have little hope of being off tomorrow.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

wtf? It just sleeted for like 3 hours here, and I’m 3.5 miles from HQ.

    Nucking Futs.

Compared to the 12+ hours of ice we’ve had out here, 30 miles from HQ.

I don’t really think it’s that nuts – it’s deceptive right now. hard shell, about 1 inch of ice pellets, and at the bottom is going to be the nasty shit – slush and black ice.

And it’s going to set up into a nice slippery mess overnight.

Don’t believe me? Go take a nice close look at it. I’ve been in and out all day with the dog, and it’s really an unhealthy idea for anyone who can’t walk to work to drive in. And even then – it’s below freezing out here – it’s not a good idea to spend too much time out there anyway.

It’s barely been above freezing the entire time I’ve been up here but I haven’t let that keep me from exploring. Or walking several miles a day on the weekend. But maybe I’m just crazy :-)

Granted, the ability to sanely clear roads in North Carolina is non-existent… you get sheets of ice instead of the sheets of salt I’ve seen up here ;)

I’m hoping that the roads are decent by noon, I’ve got to drive to Hickory tomorrow for work and somehow I don’t think it will be all that safe to do that, but I don’t think I have much of a choice. I hope your power stays on. Drive safe tomorrow.
