Joke’s on Me.

Looks like I’ve got the whole Random Video -> VCD thing figured out on Linux with about three commands

but I can’t burn the disks to be sure because CDRDAO requires SCSI devices, and ide-scsi is broken beyond repair in kernel 2.6.0-test*

Appropriate Song for this discovery….I guess I’ll see about Random Video -> DVD….

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

Ok, what are the three commands? :-) I’m just about to try converting all 26 episodes of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex to VCD to give to my brothers…

    Thanks in advance.. O:-)

    for i in $(ls dir/of/videos); do
    ffmpeg -i $i -f vcd $i.mpg
    vcdimager -t vcd2 -b vcd.bin -c vcd.cue $(ls *.mpg |sort)
    cdrdao write vcd.cue

I’ve nto been able to do a full test since I can’t burn at the moment. But all the video streams come out, and vcdimager doesn’t bitch, so…
