Isn’t it great to be back home? Home is where I want to be, yeah/Everywhere I go/I get slandered/lib

back at home. it’s good to be back.

Renee’s system has died. Hard drive is wigging out. So it’s in the freezer…

Now to catch up, then finish unpacking….

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

so whats the deal with putting the drive in the freezer?

  4. alchemist says:

Some physical problems “correct” themselves when a drive is frozen, usually long enough to get the data off. Since this drive is spasming on a particular sector, I’m hoping I can get past the seek error long enough to do a low-level reformat on it.

AQnd then get the data off.

I’ve heard of putting candles and batteries in the freezer to keep them fresh, but never a hard drive. Hope you get it fixed.

Hope you had fun at the beach.

Welcome back. And I guess you do learn something new everyday, hard drives in freezers. Wacky.

  7. jujubaba says:

cool. i have a drive that i have to do that with. it would spaz on a specific sector as well. *puts drive in freezer*
