The new go bowls are larger than I thought – they should handle up to a 10mm stone, which is awesome.

There’s LOTS of space left with just my 8mm glass stones in them now., And they are aesthetically pleasing on the shelf at work with my folding wood board. *grin*

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

sounds very nice and very zen. :)

    how are you?

  2. alchemist says:

Its’ not quite zen. I’d need a 2-inch table board to make it zen *grin*

I’m holding in there. I suppose I should put up a private/fo update at some point but i’ve been lazy. The boys are keeping me busy, busy, busy.

  3. fractalmind says:

well what is stopping you! get that 2-inch table board! ;)

i understand. kevin you are the last person on earth i would ever call lazy. isn’t it amazing how our child(ren) can keep us going on and on and on… it is like as parents we turn into energizer bunnies and yet they have the long lasting, longer life batteries. as drue gets older, bedtime gets later, i get more social and i sleep harder and better (although not enough!).

how is renee? i am coming down to the area the july 4th weekend. i would love to see you all if only for a little bit (i know you are busy) if you are in town…

2-Inch Shin-Kaya Board, $129 plus shipping. I’ve spent enough money in the past two weeks, TYVM, between the Van, the new car stereo for the Honda, and the Bowls. I’m also thinking of getting some proper clam & slate stone imported, but that *STARTS* at about $200 for the size I want.

Unless the support guy who’s training the AU people right now can bring some back from that area. *grin*

I’m trying to up the social interaction, but with (a) two, and (b) one under the age of two, it’s hard to get a sitter that isn’t one of us.

July 4th is Ray’s birthday (we’re having the part the weekend before, though). You’re always welcome, as far as I’m concerend. Just drop me/us a note, and we’ll see what can be done. *grin*

  5. fractalmind says:

yes with the big move coming up on june 27th i, too, have been spending money hand over fist!! :X

social interaction is hard!!! if jays did not have drue tues, thurs and every other weekend i would be hard pressed to get out and about as much as i do.

i would love to see you guys. thank you for the welcome. i’ll send you a note closer to the time so we can check schedules and do a little planning. i am also getting together with matusiak and some people for drinks saturday. maybe you’d be up for that???

  6. alchemist says:

Dunno – I’ll have to ask Renee. While it’s a four-day weekend, I *TRY* to give her some time to herself if she wants it. I kinda feel bad about *NOT* being home on the days I don’t ahve to work – hence the lack of social interaction in my life outside electronic forums and work.

    Self-imposed exile, as it were.

  7. fractalmind says:

well, i’d love to bring drue over and let the kids play and see you and renee. what is ray into these days??? you both need social interaction. exile is not good for anybody. :(

  8. alchemist says:

Ray? Ray is into whatever he wants. Mostly fluxuating between Spongebob and Scooby-Doo, he also likes to sing and draw. He composes his own things, though.

he’s also started making up stories and playing imagination games by himself – almost a necessity when Pre-school is on;y three days a week, and his little brother is too little for a lot of games.

He also cheats at checkers if you don’t keep an eye on him.

Yeah, we need more social interaction. I get some, but she needs more, I think. Draging her out fo the house, though, is difficult *grin*

  9. fractalmind says:

i love that he cheats at checkers! :) that is a trip!!

drue also plays games since she is is montessori only in the mornings. i found lots of trips to the park to see other kids and getting her out enhances her imagination but also keeps it in check. it is a constant struggle to find balance for our kids isn’t it!!

i can understand the wanting to stay close to the house. i was very much like that for quite awhile. it is very hard sometimes to be at home and still function as a woman and out in society these days. let renee know if she ever wants to talk as someone who was there once, that i am here anytime.

  10. alchemist says:

The difficulty I see with Ray and parks is this – he expects the parent (me if I’m there, otherwise Renee) to be his playmate. Which is fine, except I can’t do that and supervise Jacob, or do the things I need to do too. Plus he has this bad habit of thinking that running away is fun. As in, running into the parking lot, or road or whatever.

    We’re working on that.

As to the rest – we should probably take that private. I mean, I’m not comfortable discussing that sort of thing in an unprotected entry, as it were.

  11. fractalmind says:

we worked with drue a lot this year on the running away thing. we define her boundaries as it were in the park and walk her over it twice. then we give her an interval (she is great at 3 minute check ins) and an idea of when that is and let her go play. if she does not check in she gets a time out. if she goes past her boundaries we leave immediately and she gets a time out or sometimes a swat on the butt at home.

    total improvement!!

just a suggestion if you and renee are interested. :)

hopefully ray will want other kids to be his playmates soon. boys get to that later than girls if i remember my literature correctly but they also do more active play sooner than girls. so its all good. :) it has got to be hard with two. one wears me out totally.

my apologies to the other. i truly did not mean to make you uncomfortable.

  12. alchemist says:

Yeah. Of course, there *ARE* no other kids, really, in the neighborhood to play with.

I’ll have to try the boundary thing. I’ll try anythign three timew with the monkey, if I think it’ll help.

And the comfort thing isn’t about the discussion, but the unsecured medium….
