I need a video card at work that doesn’t suck. I wonder how pissed IS would get if I replaced the Rage128 Pro in this box with something worth a shit for DRI

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

It depends, do you have IS trying to maintain your machine for you or did you tell them goawayicanmaintainmyownmachinethankyouverymuch ;) If the latter, you can probably get away with it if you’re quiet about it. You might ask spot as I think he has umm… “improved” some of his machines.

Devel is probably not the example to follow since we’re sort of our own fiefdom and half of us have boxes IS doesn’t even know exist at this point since that seems to be the only way we can get recent hardware :/

Oh, and obligatory “I am not a member of the IS department, so YMMV” :)

Oh, I’m in the unsupported range on the machine – I know that very much. From Day 1 I was upgrading it to upsupported-by-IS OSes and cracking the case open to fix shit myself. If it’s weren’t a micro-form case I’d be extra happy.

And yeah, I also have the “thankyouverymuchbuttouchmysystemandsomebodygetshurt” mentality. If it were a laptop I’d be worse. *grin*
