Gang –

As you may have noticed, since I got my new job, I’ve been less active
with the LUG. The demands of my new job have dictated that I focus more
on that and my family than on TriLUG these recent weeks, and it’s going
to get worse before it gets better.

At the moment I’m working a 10a-7p shift. This will probably extend
through end of quarter in January.

As far as email access, IRC access, and whatnot, this doesn’t pose a
problem. As far as meetings and events, though, there are some
difficulties. Most of them center around the reduced time I have with my
family, and how I’d much rather be spending time with them.

On top of this, my heart hasn’t really been into TriLUG these past few
months. I think I’m on the very edges of burnout, and the personality
conflicts and nearly-monthly on-list disagreements (for lack of a better
term) are starting to take their toll.

So, (and this should come as no surprise) I need a break.

I feel that I need to be spending more time with my family than with the
LUG, more time offline than on, and more time doing something else
(although what that something else is, I have *NO* idea).

So, I’ll be showing up to start tonight’s meeting. I expect to be
leaving after introducing Tarus, in the hopes that I can at least get
home in time to kiss my oldest good night (unless someone makes
arrangements to get the Big Box o’ Stuff from me this afternoon, in
which case I’m taking tonight off, sorry gang, no reconsiderations).

After that, someone will need to track the BBoS, and make sure that
nothing goes missing (unless it’s given away).

Jeremy – you’ll be fetching the pizza and the membership cards, correct?

I can probably get a card laminating machine on my way into work this

I’ve got Lulu Stuff, and the Sam’s book stuff as well.

After that? I dunno. I don’t want to step down just yet, because we all
know, things could change tomorrow, and there’s still a lot fo paperwork
and crap i need to take care of. But I am very doubtful that I’ll be
able to help with the Lulu booth, or the October meeting.

I’m working with (chair of [email protected]) on a joint Install-Fest with
NCSU. I need to ping Paul Jones about ESR (again). There’s meeting
planning for 2003 that needs to happen, although
has offered to
give his iptables talk to us, as part of a speaker exchange with NCSU.

Once all of those are wrapped up, it may very well be time for me to
step down. I’m still deciding that. Just so you know, this isn’t a drama
thing, or an ego stroke thing – I’m mentally and physically tired of
TriLUG, and need a break. I had hoped it would get better as the new job
progressed, but, if anything, it’s gotten worse. Maybe it’ll be fun
again in a month or two.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.
