Renee is alergic to chocolate – confirmation

So anyway, a little after 4 yesterday I get a call that Renee’s itch is getting worse. Since we didn’t know what caused it yes, she had eaten some chocolate silk pie with her pill. I mean, it wasn’t chocolate, it was the dumb marinade from Monday, right?

Wrong. We put the pieces together. The initial outbreak was after a bowl of chocolate ice cream. The night before, she had sneaked a mini-reese’s cup, and it hat itched a little. Today, *RIGHT* after the pie, it got worse. OK, we can deal, right?

By 5 the itch was still worse, but bearable. She had an oatmeal bath and felt a little better. We had dinner.

By 7:30, her chest felt tight, her throat was constricting a little, and after a quick talk with her doctor, we went to the E-room. By the time we got there (8:05), she was easing up, and her rash was abating, but we needed to be sure. (OK I needed to be sure. At one point she said, “I think we could probably go home now and I told here that even if they would let her, no way”)

Renee’s folks came and picked up Raymond by 8:20. We left after additional consultation with the PA and nurses at 10. Third prescription in hand, we went to the nearly pharmacy to get it filled.

Of course, insurance only covered one of them. The Epi-Pen (a single shot ephedrine that could mean the difference between life and death) was $55, and wasn’t covered. I’ll pay $55. Gladly (and roast the Insurer alive later).

The instruction sheet they had given her at the hospital said “No more chocolate” – we were all laughing at that, since Renee had sworn off the stuff as soon as we knew what it was. She’s still going to get an allergy workup, though, just so we know everything.

Now to get ready for my day.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

Tell her welcome to the club. Only my reactions are far worse in a way.
