And I’m wondering if “tonight is the night” – still no word on the paycheck tomorrow, and my sysadmin has been getting signals that something is immanent. As in, the prior sysadmin, who is well-connected-in-the-company, and who hasn’t touched this stuff in 9-10 months is suddenly very interested in how it’s set up now.

He’s either trying to re-secure his place, or things are gonna happen soon. This is the same developer I usually bump heads with. And when going down the list of “who is and isn’t likely to get the ax,” I evaluate pretty low on the “keep” scale, and high on the “soon” scale. I think I can name who’s next on the chopping block. Or at least the 4-5 people who are the “most likely”

Bad, bad vibe, that. but I’m always nervous on a Sunday, and happy when Monday morning gets here and I still have a job.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

what was the business plan? url? :)

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you – it’s one of those “it’s for the best” situations even in the worst case, but picking your own timing is so much better, of course.

Uh-un. Nobody gets to see it until it’s in progress, ssl certs are bought, and code is being written *grin*

But yeah, I’m begining to agree that it’s for the best. Hell, even if I can’t pick my time, I’ll at least get enough time to finish FFX while I look for something else *grin*.

But I’ll sure miss the laptop in the mean time….

All I can say is, man that sucks. I hope you find some better (and more secure) in the near future.

Me too. Or this whole thing passes and wZ re-stabilizes.

    HaHaHa. Yeah, right.

No, I’ll find something, I just gotta get darkcanvas.com moved before I get the ax and my personal email & shit goes offline…

    Was your check there monday?

  6. alchemist says:

Shit no. At the moment, I’m working “for free” – my 3/25 paycheck probably won’t be here until 3/29, and now I get to play “guess when the 4/10 paycheck will arrive” along with “how late are my bills this month?”

But at least I have health care. For now….
