It’s been a hectic week, and that left very little time for updates.
I got my new laptop Tuesday, and have been adjusting ever since.
We got the tax refund today, and can pay off the worst of our debts as well as pick up a luxury item or two – Like a new wireless hub for the house. 802.11B with builtin firewall and print server. It even includes a serial port for a dialup fallback connection. Now the existing firewall can be turned into just a fat-ass NFS & SMB server. And if ray decides to push the power button on the server, it won’t kill the open IP connections.

Of course, all this good has to be tempered with some bad. Ray was a PAIN tonight. I mean, a big one. but tomorrow is another day, so we’ll see if he’s better after he sleeps.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

    Which hub/router did you get?

D-Link DI-713. 802.11B, builtin firewalling (w/dmz, even) web based config, a print server (although I don’t know how that will work under Linux) and the usual DHCP bells & whistles.
