Spent the weekend alternately entertaining my son or fighting with mail relay/delivery agents at my house.

Went to our first Childbirth class Sunday evening. Sure, we’ve done this before, but we want to be ready this time. And have some tips on how to make it easier on Renee.

My biggest concern was that the teacher would be a Natural Nazi – that is, one of those “Natural is best for you. You aren’t a real woman if you take drugs. Childbirth is the most beautify thing on the planet. Taking pain killers will hurt your baby. Taking pain killers during delivery makes you an unfit mother” etc etc. (and the La Leche League is worse, but that’s a different rant).

Woke up this am to find out my working mail setup from the night before was actually broken and causing mail loops. Ugh. Spent the morning fixing that and watching code red go crazy.

Now for lunch & work.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

Curious here, what’s the deal with La Leche? All I know about them is that they advocate breastfeeding.

I’ve never even had a kid, but I think anyone who expects women to do this with no form of painkiller is an absolute retard. How would they like a baby shoved out their…well.

Speaking of kids, RTSFS events at Diana’s house are kid friendly. She has a little boy. The other Renee routinely brings her baby there. You won’t be the only parent at the gathering, so worry not.

Advocate? More like Miltitarily endorse. I’m all for breast feeding. But, quite honestly, the child has got to wean sometime. I’ll go into greater detail about them later…

As to the rest – Yeah, I agree. I’ve bene present at one live birth with a tense mom and no painkillers (we got there at 5 cm, missed ythe painkiller window, and she was too scared to relax), and I think that’s just dumb.

I may go to games night, but Renee, being 9 months in September, won’t. Ray may or may not stay home, depending on how he is. He can be Terribly Two and wonderfully Four all in the same hour. Lately he’s been non-stop three, moving at the speed of toddler.

Would that I had that much energy. *sigh*

“Wean ’em when they grow teeth.” Makes sense to me!
